It's been a while (again) that I don't keep up with how the community's going. I have mostly lost interest in the game for now but I plan to eventually return to it whenever DINOTICK finishes his decomp and if I get some friends to help me work with my models (I really want to open a website), and whenever "dad(bunch of numbers on username)" finally manages to find out an easy way to make chassis models from scratch.
I'd like to know if there has been any progress regarding steam engines in RTR and if it's now possible to make scratch-built chassis now, since that's what I'm mostly interested in, I realy wish I could help "dad" with his attempts but I lack time to do so, however I am free to import 1 or 2 chassis from time to time once in a while.
I have been wondering something about the community though, given that the game has all of these issues with custom content, and the fact it's quite old and no longer being updated, should we consider moving on to something newer? I mean, 3D-Modellbahn Studio has been around for a very long while and it is literally RTR but updated, so why exactly this game isn't very well known or seems to only be played by a small amount of people here? I didn't get to play it yet, but if anyone here has ever played it, I'm quite curious about what differences it has when compared to RTR.
In the end I'm not sure if 3D-Modellbahn Studio is better or not than RTR, and supposing that in the long-run, especially given that we will get a RTR decomp at some point, it makes me wonder if moving to 3D-Modellbahn Studio would even be worth it, it would be like a brand new start in some way unless someone is willing to port most custom models made for RTR so far to it, which does seem possible from what I have seen some people experiment with. RTR, Iron Horses and 3D-Modellbahn Studio have very similar model formats to the point you can port models from these games around quite easily, and makes me wonder how come no one ever ported Iron Horses content to RTR yet either lol.
I personally like RTR over other railway simulators because not only the amount of games of this genre is quite small, but also because RTR and 3D-Modellbahn Studio are one of the only railway sim games that allow you to add custom content, and funnily enough, one of the only ones that aren't "bloated" and require a super computer with a giant hard drive to run! Unlike most railway simulators. Such as Trainz lol
I have some experience with programming, and given DINO's goals with the decomp, I am pretty sure I will be able to add some interesting stuff to the game whenever the decomp releases, not sure when this will happen, but I can confirm it will.
I am pretty sure I will have a lot of free time at the end of the year, around december.
This is all I have to say, I hope y'all are doing well!
Good evening to everyone.
