Hi everyone, I'm back once again! I have figured out some things. First off, RtR used Microsoft.VC90.CRT, which means the game was written in C++. (I am assuming) I am going to work off of this information and then decompile the rest of the code from here... If I run into any issues with decryption, I can either make it use a separate key for decryption, or I can trick it into thinking I have said key. If all else fails, I can brute force my way in but that might take 1-2 weeks, if not months if it's a complex encryption algorithm... If it's quite complex... It could quite literally take 5 trillion years. I am not even exaggerating, as this could be an actual possibility... Alas, I'll figure something out. I think I'm going to start with using Boomerang though to brute-force my way in and slurp up all that tasty code. (In english this means I'm really close lmao)

I think it will work because RTR is great, but an old game, written in an old code by hobbyists (BB team), not professionals, so current modern decryption programs could break the code... Good luck!

May I ask what the sense is in that? I checked, the program is available on Steam. It costs money. So - it is surely copyright protected. The homepage changed, there is even a new similar program available, and even a 2nd version announced. I also realized that even Gollum came back to life and linked this forum to his homepage. So they are perhaps extremely shy, but they are alive. So, whatever you do with it can be used for private purposes only. You couldn't even offer a version with bugs killed only... Don't slap me, it's simply true.

You forget that there is a whole community of RTR fans playing this game, creating new models and trying to improve it for free just for their own private purposes for their own enjoyment! I don't know that Dinotick wants to offer an improved version of RTR (if the code can be deciphered) to anyone for money - or am I wrong? 😲
And if the modifications are not done for commercial reasons, then anyone who bought this game can do whatever they want with this game! 🚂🤔💡🤓😂😉😄😆😛👌👍✌️

Well, I'm not a lawyer and got no rights to judge about all of this. I also would support this, if it would be safe. I'm already fan of an old time game community. They really did a remake - and the makers knew that, watched it, smiled about it and said "but we got the real code". I wish it would happen here too, but there is Steam! Nowadays you always got a license and in that it is written that you may not disassemble or change the code. Is there one in RTR too? Any hope the brainbombers could say smth about it? (... if it would be possible to finish this work. I doubt that!)

If you use the purchased item for your own private purposes (for free), you are not infringing the copyright of the creators of this item...🤔💡😉

That's right (I think) - but you aren't allowed to share it, even if not making money with it. So, where is the benefit for the community. Well, maybe some strange behaviour can be explained and so on, but there can't be an official downloadable version that we could use all.
However - I will not stop him. I just warn - for consequences and a tremendous amount of work. One can use lifetime better!

That's bullshit! When I buy shoes and then give them to someone, I just shared them... I didn't make the shoes and I don't own the copyright to them, but nobody cares who I gave the shoes to!

Hey! Watch your language! I'm joking. I don't mind the swearing. I'm not amused about this. Software isn't a shoe! So - it's no bullshit. Still, protection seems to be given only by a license. Here's a link (in german, maybe it's different in uk, i have no idea!) In fact, there is no license in the folder and you don't have to accept that you won't disassemble, decompile or whatever, like in most other programs. So - do what you want. Probably it's possible to change a little bit, but the whole disassembled code is half a million lines. Have fun!
