Thanx rae, I'm always on Pinterest in many interrests. I have more than 30.000 pix now. From Architecture to Travel posts. Get new inspiration every day by mail. So I have not concentrate on steam engines, but when I see some good ones I collect. It will be nice to see ure new model. I'm not using Brittish engines on my boards. Still love a good work.
Have u been in touch with "train", he want copies of ure steamers. - Boots127

Rae, I found these on Pinterest. Hope they are interresting objects. - Boots127 View AttachmentIs this still relevant for you? I kinda feel like making these but I see that the community has a very small demand for steam engines, in fact, it's the reason why my Duchess of Atholl model has been on hiatus for so long XD. If there is enough public interest on steam engines I might make a few, though I also want to focus on making "Volume 2" of my Thomas the tank engine pack one day.

There is a lot of interest in steam locomotives, but there are problems with these models:
1) The RTR game limits the number of steam locomotive models to only 50 IDs. I don't know the reason why BB team put this restriction. Because of this limitation, each community member carefully chooses which steam locomotive model to download and install in their RTR... π€«π
2) The idea of ββcreating models of Thomas fairy steam locomotives is a good one, but these models will probably only be used by members of the RTR community who have children and they want to create a fairytale railway for them. There are not many such members here... πͺπ
βπππ
3) Creating models of steam locomotives is a 'royal discipline'. Creating a beautiful and realistic model of an animated steam locomotive is very difficult. There aren't many modelers who can do that...I'm not a modeler, I couldn't even make a snowman model. That's why I have great respect for those who can create models. However, I'm afraid that the steam locomotive modeler who could create such beautiful and realistic steam locomotive models as BB team and several other modelers (eg Johannes, Florent J and others) are no longer here. I really don't want to offend anyone, for example I like Rae67's models, but I think - maybe I can express my opinion this way - that these models do not reach the quality and realism of the original steam locomotive model makers...π€π

1) That can easily be solved by having different copies of RTR on your PC, and supposing we manage to understand how the game works, that limit can be removed thanks to DINOTICK's decompilation. 2) Respectfully, Thomas isn't just a fairy steam locomotive from just a fairytale railway, the show might have been reduced to a goofy kids show around the 2000s and beyond, but at least before that the show took itself very seriously with it's classic seasons of the television series (1-5) and the "Railway Series" books, that were written by Wilbert Awdry, who was an actual railway enthusiast and that took himself and his work very seriously, based on that, I think Thomas the tank engine is for everyone, so my target audience with these isn't just children. But ofc I also want to give preference to real life locomotives too. 3) I don't know who are the original modelmakers, and I do have most of the talent required to make these steam engines (of course considering how they have such low poly count due to RTR's limitations). And if there is interest from the community, I am willing to make lots of them. I just wish steam engines weren't so underrated in RTR. The only thing I don't know how to do (but that the previous modellers did) is making the chassis and siderods from scratch and animating them, however I overcome that by reusing and modifying the chassis from the engines that come with the game. Anyways, supposing there's interest for these, I might finish this: The Duchess of Atholl. Anyways, i might also be picking up suggestions.

Hi Train,
1) for this reason I also rely on Dinotick's decompilation of the RTR code, it would not only remove the problem with the limited number of IDs for steam locomotives, but also many other bugs in RTR! ππ€π
2) I'm sorry, but Wilbert Awdra's TV series and book probably didn't spread much in the Czech Republic, I remember that I only heard about some fairy tale series for children. π€
3) Steam locomotives are certainly not undervalued, on the contrary, they are highly valued (especially realistic models of real locomotives), but for the reasons I wrote in the previous comment, they are not in large numbers here. If the limitation issues can be overcome in the decompilation and if the fan community expands to include new, young and enthusiastic modelers (there is no point in having one person do all the work on the models), surely there would be more interest in the models... I can't help with the creation of animated chassis, I'm not a model maker and I can't do it. But I think Rae67 left a tutorial in one of the threads on how to make animated bogies for steam locomotives... π‘ππ

(it is complete, but now most of the current work on it revolves around understanding the code) 3) There aren't many limitations, and I don't think any new modellers will join the community when you consider how old this game is and how the concurrent game (trainz) does much better, I don't mind being the only person doing the work, I like doing it, and as long as it is appreciated, I'd love to see someone building an entire layout made of steam engines that I modelled. Plus, we cannot just let steam engines "die" in RtR, I'm one of the last few surviving steam engine modellers for that game XD. 4) The tutorial mostly works with fragmotion, which I do not understand how to use, I like working with blender mostly. It's possible to animate models in blender, however idk how to build the armature for the engines and never tested how well exporting an animation from blender would work, as blender has a very poor Direct X support.

Hi Train, if you want to create some models of steam locomotives for stock, so that they are ready when the RTR decompile is successful, I am not opposed. But you should always announce in advance what model of steam locomotive you want to make, whether Thomas locomotives or real models - because with real steam locomotives, I'm not sure if it is possible to adapt the chassis that are already used in RTR for them...
RTR is old game but you are wrong that Trainz game is its competition. Trainz is a railway simulator and is a competitor to other railway simulators (BVE, MST) while RTR is a model railway simulator, which is the difference. The only competitor to RTR is 3D Train Studio, a game that came out later than RTR and I suspect it was made by a German company that someone from BB Team sold the RTR code to (Tomi mentioned it)...
How to attract new, young fans and the model maker to RTR, I don't know, at least I put a link to RTR Central on YouTube in the comments of old RTR videos... STARFIGHTER
