Hi me again.... I tried to not have any problems with building models, but again I'm here.... My F45 locomotive is nearly finished but as I try to see the progress, there's a crash with rtr, and I've been up and down to find the problem. I've looked everywhere and still haven't found the problem as I checked the model and got rid of some vertices and that still hasn't fixed the problem. I even rebooted rtr and my modeling software to fix the problem. Could someone look over my files, maybe someone has some fresher eyes then me right now....

Are the xyz axes correct? On the screen it looks as if the z-axis is too high (not the lower edge of the wheels) and the x-axis is not in the middle of the vehicle.

The most common problem that causes RtR! to crash when loading is a bad XLI file or a bad X file. Occasionally a corrupted .dds file can do it but that is really rare.
The first thing to do is to make sure that RtR! works properly without the model installed. Then install your model with the model's entry as the only one in the XLI file and run the XLI Checker (which can be found elsewhere on this site). It may be able to detect errors in the XLI file or configuration. Next, I would remove the .dds files and any entries in any of the .list files that may have references to the model.
If you want to post the model's files, I'd be happy to look at them and see if I can find a problem.

Thanks for your help.... I tried not to to get hung up but it seems I keep hitting my head on the wall....Anyway, here is my .xli file to look at; it won't let me display the whole xfile....

The bad checksum error tells me that the X file may be corrupted. Before you try recreating it, try this: - Rename the X file to something else.
- Copy a different X file and name it BN_F45_6610.x
- Run the Validator (it will need to generate a different validation value)
- Launch RtR!.
At this point, we're not interested in what the model is, just if RtR! successfully launches. If it does, then the problem is likely in the X file as created. Try loading the BN_F45_6610.x file into a simple non-formatting text editor like Notepad (not WordPad) and save it back out onto your Desktop. Then drag it into the Scenes/XFiles folder, replacing the one that is there. With luck, it may be able to create an un-corrupted version.
Try RtR! again. If it still has the problem, try rebuilding the X file with different settings of the tool you use to create the X files.
I'm afraid that I can't be much help beyond this since I no longer have a model-creation setup on my computer.

Well, so far it's been an x-file issue; I did the above actions in RTR! and everything ran. So then I created a new .xli file and that ran just fine on RTR! too. However, when I put in an .x-file, a new one validated, everything crashes. Right now I'm trying different export modes to try to get an x-file that RTR! would accept....

HI Minneapolistest I would say that your x file is too large, try reducing the size of your x file by at least 1/3

I have been trying to reduce but what other way could I reduce without taking out more detail or remove accuracy from the model?

I've cut the model file size down some and RTR! doesn't crash, instead it just stops loading....Running into this in the startlog:

Finally.... I found some more vertices to remove, and that dramatically dropped the file size, and that got my engine on the board.... Hopefully I can make the changes and keep the size low and finish this unit....
