3D MBS, indeed. I've not yet managed to get RTR running on my PC. My main interest is the modelling, really, with Blender, and the RTR models are a great subject, for me, for conversion to MBS compatibility. Breaking them down, working out how to animate con-rods and such, and changing the Materials structure, that's what I do, mostly. I know little (well more like nothing, really...) about railways, and even less about German railways, but it's a fascinating subject, and I learn new stuff every day. There's a wealth of resources in these RTR models; I'm just tin-panning them and coming up with nuggets. i.imgur.com/rWNVV2D.gifVery nice indeed!! - Boots127

When you get the RTR up and running and build some model, show off! 🚂😉👍

Ha..! I'd be delighted (assuming competence; that's not a 'given'..!), but, for now, I've absolutely no idea how to create models in RTR fashion. I have (I think...) an adequate tool for '.x' files (UUP...), but one of the things I am happy with with Blender is its simplicity, once the editing an object has been worked out. The imports are reliable, the exports also, without recourse to extra files, lists or whatever (except an '.anim' file that MBS needs if there are several animations to handle, but even that is easy...). Don't despair; I'm of a curious nature (in all the senses of the expression...), and will jump in as soon as I have a straw to clutch to. Are there any tutorials that explain the RTR construction, preferably written in words of less than one syllable, to be understood by the intellect of a four-year old..?

As far as I know, most RTR modelers used SketchUp to create models. Instructions for creating models using SketchUp were compiled long ago by user Karel on his website: Web from KarelUnfortunately, the days when the program was in a free version are over, now you have to buy the SketchUp program...💲💰💵💶😑

Hi All With regards to sketchup I have used versions 8 , 15 ,17 , 18 ,19 and 21 without paying for any of them ,you can even get the majority of the extension’s with out paying for them . If you would like to get started with sketchup please let me know and I will point you in the right direction,I will help anybody who wants to start using sketchup. Please bear in mind that making models for Rule the Rails is time consuming and sometime a very frustrating process ,but the rewards are very satisfying. The first requirement for making models is to be willing to keep going , if it all goes wrong then try again and keep on trying until you get it right, never give up. If you require any help on any subject appertaining to Rule the Rails or with the process of making models, all you have to do is ask.
Happy to help
Kindest regards Jnr

These are fine offers of help, and I shall surely be taking them up in the near future. For SketchUp, however, I'm afraid that it's a Lost Cause for me. I did try it, and had excellent assistance, even one-to-one video sharing, but I have given it up as being, to me, incomprehensible. It's the philosophy behind it that doesn't make sense to me, and since adopting Blender, I've never looked back. I have SketchUp 2017; I use it on occasion when I have an skp model to work with, but I use it now solely to export into a Blender-friendly format, and, since installing the 'skp import add-on to Blender, not even then. Blender is able to export in '.x' format, but my principle format is Gltf, for importing into MBS. It's not as bad as it sounds; I'm interested in creating modest pieces in the RTR style, but, at my age, Time lost cannot be recuperated, so I invest what little I have left wisely. A Challenge is a Challenge, however, and I'm curious to find out just what I can do with it. Meanwhile, the Signal Gantry has been adapted, and I'm now working out how to pass the Blender animations for the lights to MBS. That, too, is a challenge, getting five animations into one ordered set of instructions seems to be a little complicated. Still, onward and upward, eh..? Thanks, everyone i.imgur.com/rWNVV2D.gif ... Hi Starfighter Which version of sketchup would you like, as far as extension go there are literally there are hundreds of extensions to choose from, The best thing I would advise Is to get used to using sketchup first, then decide which extensions you would like to install in sketchup, it’s best to install the extensions that you will use the most
Kindest regards Jnr
